Anne de Hond is an assistant professor in the data science program of the Julius Center at the UMC Utrecht, where she works on the responsible development and implementation of AI in healthcare. Her early research explored real-world applications of AI in healthcare, including projects that predicted emergency department admissions and optimized ICU discharge timing. In addition to academic research, Anne collaborated with several AI startups to assess how their technologies could be integrated into healthcare workflows, illuminating the challenges of translating AI innovations into clinical practice. Her current research focuses on expanding evaluation frameworks for healthcare AI. She is particularly interested in validation strategies, explainable and transparent AI, and assessing how algorithms perform across diverse patient populations and clinical settings. With the rise of Large Language Models in healthcare, Anne is developing methods to evaluate their safety and reliability, contributing to international frameworks and standards for their responsible use. She also studies workflow integration, aiming to ensure that AI tools support clinicians without disrupting care delivery.
